The Urgent Need for Change: Supporting Victims of Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse

This week as I delved into an article discussing the latest research by the Centre for Women's Justice on police-perpetrated domestic abuse, I was appalled by the findings. The research reveals shocking levels of domestic abuse perpetrated by police officers, yet these cases are not taken seriously. Women's reports are disregarded, while perpetrators are rewarded with promotions to more influential roles within the force. This alarming trend underscores the critical necessity for institutional reforms within policing to ensure that abusers are ousted from their positions and survivors are given the priority they deserve.

It is disheartening to acknowledge that victims of police-perpetrated domestic abuse are often left without the support and justice they rightfully deserve. The longer these officials go unchecked, the more detrimental it becomes for society as a whole. We must recognise the urgency of addressing this issue and implementing concrete measures to protect and support the victims of such heinous acts.

As a society, we need to ask ourselves: How can we continue to turn a blind eye to the suffering of those who should be protected by law enforcement?
